Fourteen members of Task Force Lightning were killed today when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed near Kirkuk. Matt called twice, this morning and just again a few minutes ago. Hearing his voice helped calm my nerves and relieve my fears about whether anybody in his unit had been on those helicopters, but my heart is breaking for all the families who are affected by this tragedy.
I have been experiencing a ‘down’ day - month, really. But, Matt will be home soon (it feels great to type that). Only a few more days and I can start saying, “Next month!” when asked about his return home.
