The Donut of Misery is a geometric representation of a deployment. Many families back home (and service members overseas) have some sort of countdown system to help make the deployment bearable - mine is, of course, an Excel spreadsheet and donut graph.The Donut of Misery has been a source of frustration (there were weeks where it didn't seem to move at all) and a source of joy (‘only x% left until R&R!!!!’). I am extremely happy to share my donut as of September 9, 2007.
The brigade's advance party will be back at Ft. Bragg within the week, beginning the process to bring the rest of our paratroopers home. Only 11 percent until Matt is home for good!
